Article sur le séjour des jeunes bretons, paru dans" le Guardian", un hebdomadaire du Pays de Galles

The Breton flag, the famous Gwenn a Du was fluttering proudly over Llandovery’s Market square Post Office last week to mark Llandovery Twinning Association’s young people’s exchange – the young people of Pluguffan llandovery’s twin town in Finistère, Brettany, were , like the swallows back in Llandovery once again.

New child protection policies in France mean that visiting youngsters can no longer stay with families in private homes, but must now be accommodated altogether under the care of professional Youth leaders.

However, the twinning association, with the cooperation of both Ysgol Pantycelyn and Llandovery College, and with the generous support of the town council and the Llandovery Rotary Club, were able to put together a programme of activities.

After a welcoming reception at Ysgol Pantycelyn, the French visitors proceeded to llandovery RFC, where their accommodation, in the form of four large tents generously loaned by the college and Dan Jones, was already in place.

The following morning they met with their counterparts from the college and the high school, and get off to discover the town before sharing sporting activities at the High School.

Another morning was spent in creating a Friendship Flower bed – Blodau Cyfeillgarwch- in the garden at llandovery station and a trip to Cardiff included visits to St Fagans, the Wales Millenium Centre and the St David’s Centre.

A more activite day was spent exploring the carves at Dan yr Ocof in the morning and then walking up to Llyn y Fan Farwr in the afternoon.

The following morning saw a trip to the top of the Towy Valley around the haunts of Twin Sloe Catl followed by a visit to the church of the old celtic saint, Paulinus, at Rhandhirmwyn.

After a short rest, the young French guests repaired to the tower of llandigat Church, Llandovery, where they were given an hour’s initation into the craft of bell-ringing by Dan Jones.

An experience of a more different kind saw them join in Ysgol Pantycelyn’s trip to Oakwood the day before they left for home.
